Body image is a big one as you get older. I imagine doubly so for someone who is in the entertainment business. It's difficult because youth is something one can't take lightly, and for good reason. There is energy and beauty in youth, which you slowly lose as you grow older, and it can be heart breaking. But as you begin to let go, and somehow finally manage to do so, it frees you up to do other things - that can be fulfilling as well.
A favorite quote of mine on ageing is from the great Carl Jung: "It is a great error to assume that the meaning of life is exhausted with the period of youth and growth... The afternoon of life is just as full of meaning as the morning, only its meaning and purpose is a wholly different one."
Lots of great thoughts! We can reread the letter all year long. The culture of pretty stings every time. I’ve just become aware of it but realize it’s always been there. It’s vulnerable (and brave) to help by letting others know they are not alone.
Thank you for your insights. I appreciate your thoughts on being pretty. Those thoughts prompted a look back to when I wasted time in my life putting on too much makeup trying to reach that, "prettier than the next girl" goal. Looking back, it almost felt like a competition with other women. Why did I do that? Did I think I wasn't good enough as I was? (YEP)
I will be eligible for Medicare soon and I just don't care about that stuff so much anymore.
I highly agree with almost all of what you wrote. The only thing I have a problem with a a wandering eye. My left eye always wanders. It never faces straight. Lol. Okay I'll admit it, I'm blind in that eye. 🤣😂🤣😂 At least I can laugh about it.
Definitely need this. As I’m dealing with a lot of personal issues right now (family and my own health), I am doing the thing that pisses off the one person I thought I never would. If big changes aren’t made soon I will be making them myself. I needed to read this. Thank you
YES! YES! YES! I couldn't have said it better myself. Everything about this is spot on and I am on board! Thanks Felicia, because I did need to hear (or in this case read) this to remind myself. The pandemic did a number on me and I'm still pulling out of that swamp of mental chaos and I'm slowly reaching a goal of harmony and order. You mentioned "looking in the mirror" and its funny because my new... mantra (for lack of a better term) is "Yep! Good enough!" Ha!
I do wish you a great year and look forward to what goodness it brings.
Netflix says The Magicians is leaving soon, so I've been giving it a re-watch (tho I own seasons of it)
This write-up reminded me of Poppy, rubbing her belly during the culminating moments after the dragon egg endeavor.
I was multi-tasking on my computer, you were acting out your part on screen, and it caught me, wondering how much of "the feeling behind" that moment was acting?
Regardless, I've often wondered how much of Poppy you inherently are in real life.
You're enough.
The facial stuff.. isn't your daddo a surgeon or something? It makes sense that you'd have the change-this and that considerations.
You're more than enough.
Open up your inner burners on full, shut off the stove-top whenever you feel like it.

Ohh I needed this read! Thank you, Felicia 😊 I'm thinking of making "Enough" my theme too 😄
Excellent letter to yourself. Thank you for sharing.
Love the newsletter. Words that I try to live by. Enough is never weird.
To quote Geralt "You are enough. You are extraordinary" Just the way you are.
If it doesnt make you smile or excited, then it is not worth you time and effort
Loved this, going to share with my son who always puts friends happiness first, thank you!!!! Love the stove burner theory.

If only wisdom could come to us earlier. Oh well.
p.s. thanks for the link to the trains in Europe.
Like you have enough or you’ve had enough?
