I got called a Boomer once to my face, but the kid was 11 and I had to shrug it off. I remember not being able to understand people's ages if they were more than two or three years older than me. I imagine they don't even know what the term "Boomer" means, other than "over 20".

First, groundbreaking show, the episodes with Robert Downey Jr. remain some of the best TV ever ( especially the Xmas episode where he sings "The River" ) - I still watch the FLOG playlist when I need to relax, more epic content. 🤙

I think some youngins believe they get the world as it is today and older people are stuck in an irrelevant past. It's mostly just ignorance, they don't understand how the world came to be as it is and why some of their ideas are utterly stupid. In pop culture, like everything else, new =! better in all cases, something even old people have yet to grasp. The new hottest song or whatever isn't actually important to the world, it's just cool. Not like anyone will ever be able to keep up with all the new stuff available anyway. Most importantly, Yes Felicia, make a little time for anime some day. And yeah, please don't get worked up over the words of some jerk.

Pro tip: one of the best things to put into your feedly is your local+county public library RSS feeds. Mine list all of the just-purchased-new-books-and-ebooks-and-videos-and-music . You get to put your hold request in before basically anyone else realizes that the title is holdable.

Also: yeah, I do a periodic cull. Sometimes things get culled (Discord, for example), but that opens up timeslots for new things!

I'm with you. The really nerve-wracking thing for me is that in our industry, being hip and being relevant are linked in many ways. For me personally, the tradeoff of being comfortable in my day-to-day is *mostly* worth the sacrifice of being out there pressing the flesh, going to shows, staying up to date on every last new pop culture development. And then there are times I want to be in my late 20's again with nothing to do but schmooze. I don't know if it's actually possible to find a balance between the two or if that's wishful thinking. The only thing I do know for sure is that you should definitely get those squirrel statues because life is too short to deny yourself something that will bring you joy.

As a 43-yr-old Gen-Xer, and having a 20-yr-old daughter, I find that I don't always want to get involved with the things that interest her. I have my own interests which have morphed over the years of being a dad of 5 kids, a husband, and working full-time. Spend your time as you feel will be most beneficial to you, your family and your life. I'm growing as an author and RPG content creator. I don't think TikTok will help with that. ;-) Keep on learning!

-Long time fan....watched The Guild as it came out. I geeked a little seeing you in "We love you, Sally Carmichael".

I think the younger generations are not quite understanding that "boomer" was a generation and not just an insult to someone older than you. I'm an elder millennial, and I'm cool with that... And what I know and don't... And when I don't know something, google is handy! Lol I have a 6.5 week old daughter, we're teaching her all the music and all the cartoons... She'll be well rounded. Lol

As I left the grocery store one evening, a kid asked me to buy beer for him. Upon turning him down, he said, "Don't you remember what it is like to want to be cool?" Not really. I've never been cool, and I stopped worrying about it when I was nine. Another time, I was sitting at a table at the public library, when I heard a kid ask her mother, "What is that man doing?" "Studying," replied the mother. "Like for school? But he's so old!" "Well, he made poor life choices," the mother said. My life has been a saga of rejection and failure. My only hope is to die with dignity. But that isn't going to happen until I stop performing as a clown at children's birthday parties. Speaking of which, that kid's mother totally stiffed me on dry cleaning after her kid threw up on me. Getting confetti cake vomit out of a clown nose isn't cheap!

I really loved this entry. I just turned 36 so I'm officially in my "late 30s," and I definitely feel this pull to entropy. And that's despite having ADHD which inherently always makes me want to start doing new things! But it's harder to keep up with everything these days, especially when you cross that line between "who has time to do dishes, I'm in my 20s!" and "oh god no this is actually not sanitary." And sometimes that gets you caught in ruts, when you don't make the time to keep up with things, or have time to play or learn or grow. Thank you for writing this and sharing it.

"Ok, Boomer!" can be said to anyone! It just implies stodgy behavior. Thanks for these blogs!

I related to this post on a molecular level. I just turned 45 but consider myself still the “hip cool Aunt” among my friend group! But whenever I delve into who or what TikTok is I become completely self aware that I have no idea how it works or how people do it! LoLz But recently my younger friends have sent me a bunch and they were so freaking hilarious and creative! I am getting out of my own head and am going to enjoy them for what they are and not feel like a weirdo creeper old lady while doing it. Hahahaha! Love you and the blog! :)

I'm a Gen Xer and my 17-year old calls me Boomer on a regular basis. It used to bother the hell out of me, but when I watch him try to tackle a load of laundry or watch an episode of Rick and Morty for the fourth time, I remind him how easily I could label him and make fun of his differences, and that makes him think before judging. Besides, I'm the one that took him scuba diving with great white sharks and brought him and his little brother to see The Stones in concert. Who's really the fun person marching to her own beat? 😁😉

Well done 👍 ignore the youthful folk. Ageing is fantastic, you get to do all sorts of things that the young can’t. Like figuring out what type of cool socks your going to need for the year or the never ending struggle of what exactly is trending now🤣 We’ve already realised and embraced the fact that being a little socially awkward and a tad weird rocks 🥳 Remind your self that your doing great and keep on laughing 😆
