It's 10 Days Away...
I am so excited and nervous and a little sick to my stomach. Yay!
July 20th the Kickstarter for “The Guild” reunion movie begins! FYI, we are doing a 12 hour livestream on my Twitch channel starting at 7:30am PST to celebrate the kickoff. If you haven’t signed up yet, I’d really appreciate it if you clicked HERE to do so! We are officially the #1 followed movie on the platform ever as of today (WOOT!) but we can do better! I’m competitive and will never crowdfund a movie again LOL, so would love to gather and start with a bang. Those follower numbers are a great indicator of how well we will do day one. And doing well…would be niiiiiice.
So how WILL we do? Well, no one knows, lol. It’s the great question mark hanging over my head for three months since I decided to really DO this thing. Weird to have to prepare for a disaster scenario (no one donates) and a wild success scenario (tons of people donate) at the same time. But that’s the gig! “We achieve all the stretch goals”! “We make the movie in the yard with my iPhone!” Thinking about it gives me whiplash, ya’ll!
But all the wonderful people I’m working with, including several people who used to work with me at my old company, Geek and Sundry, are helping make this the coolest project I’ve ever worked on, so artistically that’s something. I’m also proud of myself for approaching the work in a healthy-ish way. Working out on my treadmill desk, eating mostly healthy, trying not to work until midnight every night. I mean, I can’t say my daughter HASN’T had too much time on her iPad this summer because of my having to work too hard, but it’s finnnnne. Minecraft is good for the brain, Mama has a vision. Those two things go together. :D
Plus, we are doing things no one has ever done on a movie Kickstarter, and that alone is making me happy. Innovating. Sticking it to Hollywood. Awesome. :D
I will get back to newsletters that are NOT about this subject soon, I promise. I am not living a life outside this Kickstarter right now, and thus am behind on my Baldur’s Gate 3 play-through, my podcasts, my dental and eye checkups, all of it. Come Sept, I’ll get back on the wagon!
Oh wait, we’ll be in pre-production for a movie then. Forget it. See you in December!!

With The Odyssey movie coming out, I’m diving back into reading about the collapse of the Bronze Age, which was thought to be around the time when the Trojan War in the Iliad happened. Here’s a good article outlining some of the facts of the “collapse”, and a graphic novel recc called 1177 BC, that brings history to life in an interesting way.
My brother Ryon made me order rice from The Rice Factory, and I’m ruined. It’s the best short grained rice you can get, sigh. They mill it when you order it. Highly recc the 70% milled, which has a touch of brown rice nuttiness, with the soft gummy texture of white. Mmmm, furikake time!

I'm working on putting something out there to try and help get some attention for the Kickstarter. Should be out the same day.
