In re research: Years ago a friend, who'd been to 100 countries or so, told me he always tries to read mystery novels set in his destination country. The noir series from the wonderful indie publisher Akashic Books has mysteries from all over the world. Highly recommended. https://www.akashicbooks.com/subject/noir-series/

I'm glad you both had such a great time here in Sweden! I live up north, also worth a visit but I get that there are a lot of other countries to explore! 😃 I've never actually seen the Vasa live, but I think you've convinced me to the next time I'm visiting my cousins in Stockholm. 😊

Loved reading the newsletter. One of the wonderful joys of taking a vacation is learning about and discovering the amazing culture, breathtaking sights and wonderful local food. It It can give you such insight & greater appreciation for what you are seeing & enjoying that others people may just pass by. So glad you were able to enjoy this with your kiddo. It makes for an awe inspiring & more memorable experience when it's shared with others. Can't wait to hear more about this new audio drama. With Supernatural 20th anniversary on September 13th, those Supernatural conventions will be quite the party with Charlie & the Supernatural family.

Bucket list: Stockholm? -Why not?

-less edible eyeballs.

These weird and amazing inner fixations of feeling disconnected while discovering uplifting fantastic serenity in foreign lands are enticing.

I might need to build a bigger bucket.

I love Rick Steves! I grew up watching his travel show on Oregon Public Broadcasting. I always buy one of his books when I am going to any part of Europe.

You’re a great vacation partner/parent.

I can just see show and tell time at school!!💜

There are, in fact, many food items in Japan that stare at you while you eat them. So many eyeballs. Good luck with that!

Oh please take pictures at the pastry shops, the USA doesn't know what it is missing with European goose berry desserts.

I enjoyed reading about Stockholm it sounds like a great place to visit. I confess I like to research my destinations before traveling as well. Okay, I research more than I actually travel. I think you have me beat with spending a month doing it. Potato flake gnocchi rocks I made it for the first time last year. I'll have to take a look at the book, it sounds interesting.

I'm happy that you take the time and interest in traveling with your young one. As a grandma it's these early memories you'll find yourself reliving once you get my age. I love reading what you write because you are really good at it. You engage in life. Thx for sharing the gross eyeballs and that amazing blacksmith pic!

As a kid growing up in Stockholm, it feels like you are dragged to see the Vasa at least once a year with your school, and you do not appreciate its majesty at all until you start getting older and meet tourists who will rave about its amazing uniqueness - and eventually you realise this too :) So cool to read your perspective on my hometown, I agree with everything except that "Kalles kaviar" is not delicious (I eat it almost every day), but it's definitely an acquired taste. Great to see the kid enjoyed the visit too, and that Sweden was as kid friendly as its reputation! :)
